| This course is designed to help medical and scientific professionals communicate with their English-speaking colleagues. You will learn vocabulary useful for discussing medical topics and participating in international conferences. You will also practice sharing your viewpoint, as well as asking and answering questions. Articles will be provided to the student prior to each class. The course can be tailored to the needs of the student. Grammar will be introduced as needed. | |||||

| Note: In all lessons, students may select diseases of interest to them. The following diseases are used as examples. Lesson 1: Metabolic diseases - diabetes, obesity Lesson 2: Cardiovascular diseases -atherosclerosis, hypertension Lesson 3: Neurological diseases - Alzheimer's disease, depression Lesson 4: Immunological diseases - arthritis, multiple sclerosis Lesson 5: Oncology - lung cancer, melanoma |

| Prior to each lesson, articles and information regarding the lesson's topic will be provided to the student. The student may request that other diseases be discussed instead of those listed above. Our discussion during each lesson will include the following: - Description of diseases - Disease epidemiology - Current treatments - Potential future treatments - Differences in epidemiology and treatment in Japan and the U.S. |
